Imeelezwa kuwa matokeo ya Utafiti wa Mradi wa Tathimini ya Maji kwa Mazingira (EFLOWS) unaotekelezwa na Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine cha Kilimo (SUA) kwakushirikiana na Baraza la Taifa la Uhifadhi na Usimamizi wa Mazingira (NEMC) yanatarajiwa kwenda kutumika kama mfano kwenye nchi kumi za Afrika katikaukanda wa magharibi mwa Bahari ya Hindi ambazo zinakabiliwa na changamotoza uhifadhi kama ilivyo kwenye mto Mbarali. EFLOWS Project Researchers continue with the Wet season Data collection in the Mbarali River

By Placid Kabalo Researchers from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in collaboration with Researchers from the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) and Researchers from the Rufiji River Basin (RBWB), have met for four days in Rujewa town in Mbarali District in Mbeya Region to collect various Research Data in looking at the ecosystem of the Mbarali River. The Mbarali River is one of the rivers that flows into the Great Ruaha River whose waters flow into the Rufiji River and into the Indian Ocean. FIELD REPORT NOVEMBER 2021 Mapping Water Sources in the Upper Mbarali River Sub-Catchment One of the Mbarali River source of water in Waging'ombe district Njombe Region Introduction Mbarali river is one of sub-catchment within Rufiji River Basin in the Southern Highland of Tanzania facing ongoing degradation due to land use change, poor institutional management and climate change. Degradation and poor management of water sources have affected river flows in both quantity and quality with devastating impacts on the downstream including the coastal and marine ecosystems through increased inflow of nutrients, sediment deposits, and variation of flow regimes. The exponential growth of water demand catalyzed by the increase of anthropogenic activities and population growth increase the pace of environmental degradation within the sources and along the entire river to the downstream.
